Being Eclectic in 2019

As 2019 shapes out to be a year of reduction and purpose, learn how to avoid eclecticism on steroids and use design for function.

When a space has too many things going on – to the point where you can barely utilize a surface area for function – it creates chaos.

We love eclecticism, and you’ll see it in a lot of our designs, but what we don’t love, and hope to bid farewell to, is eclecticism on steroids. The inability to use design for function is one of the biggest caveats we see with this aesthetic. Everything you invest in should have purpose, and we see 2019 shaping out to be a year of reduction and purpose in the items used to style.

An eclectic approach to decorating can be challenging. It is always good to incorporating both rough and smooth textures adds interest to an interior, especially when you choose a simple color palette. While combining textures is key, there’s also room to use one texture at least three times in different spots throughout a home. It helps to maintain a cohesive look.

When it comes to an eclectic decorating style, know that your eye needs a place to rest. It’s not just about what you display. Sometimes it’s about what you leave out.

There’s no need to put your entire collection on display all at once. To maintain an environment that’s full of character, the secret is how you mix things up. Edit to just your favorite few, and rotate the pieces for variety or seasonally.
